About Us
Why The Village
What comes after home?
For many neurodivergent people, the transition from living with family to living more independently happens only when circumstances leave no other choice.
A caregiver becomes unable to continue. A family reaches a crisis. Something changes suddenly.
We believe there should be another way.
The Village gives individuals and families the opportunity to prepare for that transition long before it becomes an emergency.
The Village feels like a home before it feels like a service.
Visitors experience a warm, welcoming environment where residents are actively engaged in daily life, learning practical skills, building relationships, working towards personal goals, and participating in meaningful routines.

The Weekly Model
Nothing happens overnight.
The Village does not begin with a permanent move.
Individuals spend time at The Village each week, returning home as part of an intentional transition model.
This creates space to gradually build:

Familiarity with the environment

Daily living routines

Self-management skills

Relationships and community participation

Confidence in being away from home

Confidence for families in letting go, gradually
The pace can evolve with the individual.
The destination is not separation from home. It is greater choice about where and how a person lives.
The Family Journey
A transition families can grow into too.
Moving towards greater independence is a transition for families as much as it is for the individual.
The Village creates time.
Time to try.
Time to adjust.
Time to learn what works.
Time to build trust.
There is no expectation that families must suddenly hand over responsibility for an entire life.
The transition happens gradually, together.
Our Approach
People first. Always.
Person-Centred
The person comes before the programme. Support is shaped around individual strengths, needs, communication, choices and goals.
Evidence-Informed
We use established practice, professional expertise, data and continuous learning to guide what we do.
Collaborative
Better outcomes come from working with individuals, families, professionals, organisations and communities.
Long-Term
We are interested in what lasts beyond a programme, a funding cycle or a single intervention.
Our Belief
Needing support should not mean giving up the possibility of a life of your own.
The Village exists because we believe neurodivergent adolescents and adults deserve opportunities to grow into adult lives with choice, contribution, relationships, community and the support they need.
Not when a crisis happens.
Before.
